I had heard that this book was not highly recommended, but what the heck, it was $14.00 and free shipping from Amazon.The cover photo, also displayed inside, is beautiful, as are all the other photos in the book. Some are not my cup of tea, but a lot of them are, and Joe Cornish has proven his mastery of light and the landscape photograph.I found the book somewhat instructional because the images gave me ideas for my own work, and the text isn't preachy or anything. All in all, a very good buy!

Great book. As an educator people often ask for books that are easy to read & comprehend around social justice. I would recommend this for sure. I've referred to it many times.

I can honestly say this: I will never, ever be able to listen to a racist comment about Asian Americans again - even an unintended one -without thinking of what I've learned in this book. There were times I cried while reading, considering the life-long "otherness" foisted on Asian Americans by white Americans, including myself.A few chapters into this book, I was sitting in an exit row on a plane that was getting ready for take-off. The flight attendant came down the aisle to ask the perfunctory questions of us in those seats, of our willingness to die for the cause and all. The flight attendants are required to get a verbal `yes' from each passenger in the exit row. Sitting across the aisle from me was a middle aged Asian American business man, dressed impeccably, clearly a frequent flier (as most people in the exit row are). After explaining the situation, the flight attendant turned to this man and asked, "do you speak English?" he responded, "yes", with the complete lack of accent only available to a 2nd or 3rd (or longer) generation Asian American. I almost jumped out of my seat, with my new awareness of what it would be like to be asked questions like this (and worse), have assumptions made, and be treated as "other", and "not us", for your entire life. (I actually turned to the man, and a bit shaky with my brand-new righteous indignation on behalf of all Asian Americans, said, "I apologize for the stupidity of Caucasians." He gave me the odd look I deserved.)Here's the rub: how do I - how do we - engage in this critical conversations without somewhat perpetuating or adding to the "otherness" sin against Asian Americans? By the very fact that I am trying to figure out how to be a part of change - in my own heart, first, and in our culture in some way - I am concurrently, and by necessity, bringing attention to the uniqueness (read: otherness) of the Asian American experience. How can I pursue the friendship I think I would really enjoy with the Asian American youth worker in san diego I met through all this mess, have conversations about stuff like this, and yet still not treat him as my token Asian American friend, as my personal guilt-assuager, or as my "project" - all positions that do violence to him.The book actually addresses this tension, explaining (at length) why the ideal of "colorblindness" doesn't work. but, either I didn't quite understand that part, or I thought the final conclusion of "live in the tension" wasn't quite satisfying enough.Anyhow. I really do recommend this book, especially for anyone who would like to grow in their understanding of the Asian American experience and the issues that continue to surround the racism we don't tend to talk about in America.

I greatly enjoy this author, I heard his story during the National Conference on Race and Ethnicity a few years back. He give great insight on the issues on race and ethnicity beyond just black and white. I highly recommend this book.

Wu provides information on how racism affects Asians as well as Blacks in the U.S. in a way that many who write about anti-racism and racial issues do not. Blacks, Asians, and those who are viewed by Whites as less than "American" (by those who use being middle class or upper class White as their norm for being a U.S. citizen) by others need to be allies against this racism.

Decent read, content was very good. Goes into great depth on breaking out of the normal black-white dichotomy discourse

About the Author

Sebastien Gerard is a CEA LIST senior researcher in software engineering and computer science. He is also core member of the European network of excellence, ArtistDesign (http://www.artist-embedded.org), where he is a prime on issues related to modeling and standardization. The specification was defined, documented, published in 2009 [http://www.omg.org/spec/MARTE/]. It has been the subject of extensive research with numerous research papers published in the academic literature. It has been applied to numerous case studies, and tool support is available.But until now, it has remained beyond the reach of most developers - mainly because available documentation only defined what MARTE is: its elements, attributes and structure. It did not describe how to use the language for typical design problems.This book is an excellent handbook that addresses common features of RTES, such as communication among concurrent processes, synchronization, resource contention, timing, execution platform options, and so on. Numerous, realistic examples illustrate how to represent design features with UML annotated with MARTE specifications. Both the design representation and the design analysis are covered. It is extremely well-written and easy to understand. A must-have for initial experiences with UML/MARTE and as a reference book thereafter. It is oriented more to software design issues and a Platform Independent Model. Sufficient details are provided for platform modeling without overly detailed platform implementation details. The authors are masters of the language: both were instrumental in MARTE’s evolution and technology transfer. This is the best resource I have found and I recommend it highly.

Brown's (Uncommon Traveler) lyrical narrative chronicles the life of Columcille, born to an Irish king in 521, and his passionate commitment to words and ideas. In an age in which books were a rarity and few people were literate, Columcille was "Prince, scribe, monk, [and] bard." Brown describes his subject's fascination with a rare book of Bible psalms and his secret vow to make an illegal copy. The High King declared that the duplicate manuscript was the property of the owner of the original, and a terrible battle ensued. Although Columcille's army won, the horror of the bloodshed that day caused him to vow to leave Ireland and cross the sea to Scotland. On the island of Iona, he and 12 followers established a monastery and set to work copying other books and illuminated manuscripts. This brief but fascinating story will appeal to bibliophiles and be useful for assignments on European saints and Celtic history. There is a helpful author's note, a sample Roman alphabet, and detailed sketches of bookmaking and a leather boat. The illustrations are soft double-page watercolors that create an impression of green countryside, wild waves, and the windswept shoreline. I got this book for my 1st and 2nd grade religious ed/First Holy Communion kids.At first, I was taken aback. The colors are kind of dark and rainy. It also focuses on Columcille (St Columba's - mid to late 500's A.D.) fight over a book that he had copied (i.e., a handwritten manuscript) that ended up in a clan war and a number of wounded and dead.However, after reading it a few times, I realized it was a really interesting approach to looking at sin and weakness. Columcille was given the death penalty by his bishop, but was given a reprieve through the support of another monk. Instead of doing something useless or dumb, Columcille exiled himself to nearby Scotland and ended up doing fabulous work, spreading Christianity, founding monasteries and churches, and functioning as a peacemaker among the Picts.I found that the kids really liked the story and were captivated by the illustrations.

Great book and inspiring. A good saint book to add to your collection. Easy to read and for the kids to understand.

The books made colonies of learning, and people's minds, once dark with ignorance, were brightened." Mr Brown's poetic text is filled with imagery, is rich in history and drama and complemented by powerful and evocative artwork in quiet and subdued tones. This is a nicely illustrated and written story about Ireland's Columcille, but the author left one very important point out--Columcille was a monk! That's right, a Christian leader in ancient Ireland. To read this book, one would only know he was a scholar & lover of books, but his claim to fame was as a religious man.

The only thing that I can add to the professional and reader reviews is that St. Columcille is also known as St. Columba. All the other reviews do a great job of describing this book.

This book was read as part of the Catholic Mosaic program with our kids. It happened to be read around the first week of school and the subject of being a scholar and how important books are to EVERYONE was highly appropriate. Definitely a keeper!

The storm-tossed watercolors on the pages of this book are the perfect illustrations for this biography.Columcille the man was a monk who fought to maintain the written word during the Dark Ages. This biography is quite well done, with a very good notes section at the back. Includes a bibliography and a demonstration of how to create Uncial calligraphy script.Great book.

I have every one of Lisa’s book and love them all!Just like the rest if them, I was so excited to receive this book!I listen to the Chew The Right Thing Podcast and when I heard them talking about some of the new recipes from this book I was starting my list of things to try!The book has so many easy to follow recipes with natural ingredients. There are beautiful pictures for each recipe as well which makes them more enticing!The way the book is broken down makes it super easy to follow & find what you are looking for.I have gone to the grocery store twice now and gotten ingredients for 7 recipes on my “try it now” list!The variety of foods is incredible! I am going to buy an instant pot just so I can try some of the IP recipes in the book.This morning I made the growing oatmeal bowl and it was so creamy and delicious! The single portion sizes are awesome! I could barely finish it and even 4 hours after eating I am still comfortably full. I promise you won’t go hungry!Buy this book! You won’t be sorry!

I was so excited to get the latest Hungry Girl cookbook. Simply 6 is ok, and there are recipes that I will make....but it’s not as many as I make from Lisa’s Clean and Hungry Obsessed, which I cook from at least once a week.

I have been an HG fan since the early years and I really like this cookbook. The recipes are simple and approachable, and really take me back to the roots of the HG brand...making healthy eating EASY. I made the orange sunrise smoothie this morning and my 4 year old loved it.Other things I like about this cookbook:*The way it’s organized. Super easy to find recipes that work for your specific needs.*Gorgeous pictures.*Lots of veggie centric recipes.*Plenty of options for family-size servings.I look forward to trying more recipes and will update my review once I do!

I love this book!!! It is geared to my way of cooking “quick and easy”!! I have tried a couple so far and planning on two more this weekend. Great to see a cookbook focused on recipes using few ingredients as too many books have become heavy on complicated recipes. Cooking at home, I am not going to get every deluxe spice or ingredient for one meal, so this is a welcome change.Great book for cooking simple and cooking well.

The recipes in this book all sound fabulous. I always put a little marker by the recipes I want to try in a new cook ok. However, I soon realized I was marking every recipe! I also love the bright white, high quality paper used to make this book. The type is nice and dark making it so easy to read. I love HG's recipes, emails and podcasts and I am so happy I ordered this book to get these great 6 ingredient recipes!

I love this book. I have every single one of her books and sometimes two!! Just when I think there can't be new recipes to be had, BAM here Lisa comes with another book. This book is packed with photos as we all know food is an eye appealing thing. Lisa and her staff of peeps are amazing individuals. I appreciate them trying recipes for the team. Thank you for eating the not so good stuff as I'm sure that exists as well. Thank you Lisa and Hungryland for helping me on my better eating/weight loss journey. It has been a life long struggle and it continues.
