About the Author

Diane Alber has had a passion for art since she held her first crayon at age two, which inspired her to subsequently earn a Bachelor's Degree in Fine Arts from Arizona State University. She is a wife and a mother of two young energetic children who love books. She became inspired to start writing and illustrating books because she saw a need for a series that inspired art and creativity in children. She also hopes that this book encourages parents to be proud of their children's art work no matter what it looks like!

What a great addition to all the other books that empower children to be creative with the marks that they make! I especially appreciated that she dabbled on how dots are not used just for drawing or illustrations, but are used for punctuation and letters too! Thanks for another book of such creative fun! The kids will love all the faces that the dot character makes.

This along with Diane’s other books are some of my new favorites; they are FUN! The colorful, whimsical illustrations and rhyming text make it a great read aloud! It’s so much more though! It engages kids to interact by looking for “spots” in the illustrations and also all around them teaching them to be observant. She even encourages them to be creative and draw their own; her books lead right into an art lesson! At the end she gives “next steps” to help adults make the most of this creative reading and art experience! As a former school librarian, educator and “hope-to-be-someday” grandparent, I highly recommend “Spots”!!! It’s a fun educational opportunity for any age child!

I love how Spots teaches kids to look for the fun (or spots) in everything. Whether you're waiting in line or on a long car trip, there are always things to look for. Spots teaches us that spots and dots are everywhere and they make up everything. Great fun and wonderful lessons of creativity and imagination.

This book is creative, colorful, written well and funny. Spots would be such a good book to read at home with your children as well as in the class room. There are lessons of art in this book with activities your children will love to do. My kids are 9, 10, and 11. They enjoyed reading it themselves as soon as they were done reading the art activities began. I highly recommend this book. I now plan to check out the entire series as well as purchase for our Art teacher at school.

Just put our names right at the top of the Diane Alber fan club! We love her books! Much like her previous books, Spots uses catchy rhymes that make the book fun and teach children about art and creativity. The illustrations are a colorful treat for the eyes. Any book that encourages children to use their imagination and create is a huge win for me! As a bonus, at the back of her books she includes ideas for continued conversation and art. Well done Diane, once again you have hit it spot on!

Loved this fun story! We actually used it for a first-grade book club and had the kids do their own spots using bingo daubers and the stickers from this author’s other book “Scribble.” Such a fun activity!

I have other books from this author and they all boost colors and creativity in kids. My five year old daughter loves the book and then creating spot art!

Great little book. Perfect for home, home schooling or an art class. I love that she added lesson ideas. Can't wait for more from her.
