This concise book gave me the necessary details to get started in the creation of an audiobook. I especially appreciated the homegrown approach coupled with direction of when to seek professional editing help. I feel I can take the first steps with confidence.

This book was the first one I read about producing audio books. I found it to be quite helpful and informative. It had a few typos & misspellings and a wee bit of self promotion of a concurrent business, but in general, those two factors didn’t get in the way of a fairly high quality reading experience.

It is short, but gives a lot of info without filler. I found it very helpful and will probably continue to use it as a reference. There is also some nice bonus material that gives you step by step instructions which is super handy.

This is such a great book for anyone wanting to learn how to turn books into audiobooks. It goes into detail about what equipment you will need to record the book, different options on editing the book, and so much more. I especially liked chapter five about uploading the file and changing settings (if needed). He also supplies a link to a video near the end of the book. This is a great book and I highly recommend it!

This is a good overview of how to get started with audio books through ACX and Audible but it doesn't spend much time on the real meat of making an audiobook, which is the recording. That's the hard part, and while the book walks about using colored pencils to mark different aspects of the text to be recorded, that's as deep as it gets. I would have liked to have seen a lot more about this. Definitely worth $.99, but if you're looking for more in-depth info on production and recording, this isn't the book you need.

Really enjoyed reading. It is clear, concise, and perfect for the beginner or the author considering recording his/her own audiobook. The bonus features are excellent - several YouTube videos that enable you to "see" what is being done. Finished the book and will undoubtably refer back.

It did not include vital info such as hot to find a recording studio or a studio engineer. It seemed more like a commercial to buy more of his books.

This book answered most of the questions I had, and I was able to finish my project. It is not long, nor does it give a lot of hype on the process of recording. It could have had a few more practical tips, like cheap ways to set up a home studio, but that stuff is kind of common sense anyway.

This is the first book that I feel I have learned from. Most other in the "cruising" genre just spell out their tale, not really passing any info. This one is different. Thank you Betty. I do hope others will learn from this and adjust. Too easily can one feel that their experiences are so much different from others that it is worth putting to written word. Most are dead wrong. I have not had 1 moment that I felt bored or taken advantage of. This topic is the driving force in our lives now, to "follow the dream and sail away". This book will clearly help you on your way. Again, thank you Betty. Fair winds and following seas.

Just finished reading "Island Fever" and it captures the essence of feeling the freedom of no destinations, just sailing where the wind takes you. I only enjoyed a few of the islands Betty Karl describes in her travels and now I'd like to go back and visit the islands I missed. She captures the rhythm of island life; so peaceful and yet so energizing. You can almost taste the rum and the roti. This is a great travel companion when you go sailing through the Caribbean islands or a good armchair read if you must stay home!

Betty Karl gives great insight into what life as a cruiser is really like as she makes her way through the islands of the Caribbean. Follow along with her as she shares her experiences and passes on must have information for any one planning a life of cruising or to those already doing so but missing many of the not so well traveled spots for one reason or another. I am sure you will enjoy it as much as I did.....

Not very enlightening or motivating. Basically a list of complaints having to do with being a cruiser in an island nation and living on a boat in general. Some of the stories were repeated more than once

Constantly repeating herself in the various stories and the stories are not in order....with editing it could have been much better. But overall, still nice to hear about sailing in the Caribbean!

Easy read. Fun and very interesting. Highly recommend. I could not put the book down. Even read it a second time and will keep it in my library.

Muso Soseki: Born ten years after Dante, in 1275, Muso Soseki was the most famous Zen monk of his time, and is considered the father of the rock garden. This is one of the clearest books of Zen poetry I've read. It is meditation, fantasy, reflection and part-biography of a man who lived at the same time as Dante. This volume expands on the selections Mr. Merwin chose for East Window to which I have turned many times over the last five or so years. I don't know how one "translates" these ancient texts, but Mr. Merwin and Mr. Shigematsu make the selections read as if they were composed yesterday. A wonderful volume.

A beautiful book, thank heavens it's back in print. The introduction opens the volume nicely. Each poem is like a painting, full of such depth it can be viewed over and over to appreciate its depth.

These poems and letters make it clear why Muso Soseki was 'Teacher to Seven Emperors'.

Muso Soseki, also known as Muso Kokushi, was a thirteenth-century Zen roshi, the first great designer of the Japanese rock garden, and a poet of startling immediacy and attractive spirit. His work mixes the paradoxical directness of Zen convention with a great expansiveness of feeling: the poems manage to be both wise and delightful. He too has been fortunate in his translator: W.S. Merwin, working with Soiku Shigematsu, has cast Muso's verse in Williams-inspired triadic stanzas, and it works beautifully. I purchased the North Point Press edition of these poems in the early 1990's mostly for the sermons contained at the end of the book. At that point in my life, I was not much of a poetry reader and had little interest in the art form. After receiving the book in the mail, I flipped through it and decided to read it on the upcoming weekend when a fraction of peace would enter a very busy life. Starting at the beginning of the book, I read each poem and found some glint of insight or empathic resonance in almost every poem. This was the first book of poems I read from cover to cover and enjoyed. I have kept this book with me for many years now. It holds a special place in my growing collection of Asian poetry. And as you can guess, I highly recommend it.

Krista Tippett is interesting, informed, and quite amazing on the subject of religion. She's very quotable. This is not quite a casual read-- it's deep and I found it deeply satisfying. Tippett's approach is interfaith. She speaks of Christianity, but she also speaks of other faiths and of the human quest for meaning. This is less a conversation from within the confines of religion's structures than it is a sophisticated exploration of the ways people experience faith and spirituality-- what we think we are experiencing, and what we think we know. Here's a sample: "[W]e can't compare faith flatly to reason and declare it intellectually inferior. Its territory is the drama of human life, where art is more precise than science, where ideas are lived and breathed."

The paperback edition of the book that I had ordered included an excellent discussion guide, etc. The cover picture shown on your site was of that specific editioHowever, when I received the two copies I had ordered, it was not of that edition, not of the book that you have pictured on your site. Very, very disappointing. I returned the two books. You re-embursed the money. I would much rather that you had sought the correct edition and sent me that. I hope the selling of editions other than the ones pictured or described is not something that happens with any kind of frequency, either with books, CDs or DVDs. This is the first time it has happened for me. The book itself is extraordinary. I found the harcover in a sale bin and thought it was a collection of her interviews on NPR. But it is her memoir, her own faith development - filled with thought provoking, faith enriching and spirit stirring insights. Beautifully written and definitely motivating the reader to go one his/her own spiritual journey. Her analysis of power and influence of religion, especially fundamentalism, gives great understanding of what is happening in our world today. And even more, may help individuals understand their own knee-jerk reactions to their own ungospel-like attitudes of exclusion, rather than inclusion. For me the book holds wisdom that deserves a wide readership. And that is why I buy many copies to give to friends, and to encourage people in church ministry to use as a guide in faith/ministry/awareness expansion. I myself am a Catholic priest - and I felt the Holy Spirit's "ru'ah" upon me the whole time I was reading this book.

This book is both biographical and reflective of the wonderful interviews Krista does on Speaking of Faith, a public radio program on spirituality. Krista has developed an inclusive, thoughtul, humorous and loving approach to interviewing great spiritual leaders and scholars of all faiths, which details the individual nature of human spirituality. Krista looks for common ground with other seekers, providing a refreshing alternative to religious stereotypes that classify, generalize, and pass judgement on the spirituality of other cultures. Krista' changed from a bright, international political negotiator, without an active faith, to a divinity student 2 years later. Krista now is a professor of religion and has developed an unusual ability to make people feel comfortable talking about their spiritual growth. I highly recommend this book for all who seek a deeper relationship with God, as it is fascinating and easy reading. I listen with fascination to Krista's 6 AM "Speaking of Faith" on MPBN each Sunday morning in Maine for inspiration.

Enjoyed this book immensely for many reasons. The transparency .........covering various religions and beliefs w/out attacking anyone. I felt I was alongside Krista as she was reliving her life experiences and so appreciated her ability to share her struggles, her victories and those wonderful people along the way she interviewed who also shared such wisdom around how we all need to walk the earth together not in tolerance but in unity! I will be reading this again as once is not enough to digest everything! I purposely purchased this on my Kindle so I wouldn't mark the book up! I will be purchasing a hard copy in hopes of getting some of my friends/family to read it!

Everyone has a unique life, but Krista Tippet has had opportunities way beyond the wildest dreams of most truth seekers. Her book chronicles a life rich in personal encounters with notable people from around the world. It is a long list. Not all of them are religious, but all are remarkable as unique spokespersons for some facet of that grand human attempt to make sense of things.This was my kind of book. I love to write in the margins, pose questions, add counter points etc.. It is not supposed to be a light or fun read. She is asking questions, hard questions that even the best and brightest of her guests struggle with. It is as others have suggested, an extended conversation. And it is a conversation that we can sit in on! My only regret is that I could not physically be there to ask my own questions or put in my 2 cents worth.Krista is no slouch herself. She was the perfect person to have all these opportunities. I hope she has the strength to continue these conversations. I worry a little that the shear weight of all the uncertainties and complexities she immerses herself in will take a toll. As she ends the book I can't tell if her glass is half full or half empty. But I know I desperately want to reach out to her and say, here are a few more pieces I have found to put in your glass.
