Enjoyable texts. Love my Loebs and this is no exception. Would recommend Christopher B. Krebs’ “A Most Dangerous Book” to read with the “Germania” that’s in here.

Tacitus: The legend. One of the best in the Loeb Series. Highly recommend. Gives insight to Roman views of other cultures.

Quality & Service. Excellent; deserving the priceless works of art of "Germania." The book is the Thomas Jefferson used to base his Anglo Saxon history to justify Americans fight for "Ancient Liberties." Of all the Loeb Classics I own, this is the best!

I love Loeb Classical Library books, as the English is side by side with the Latin. It makes it easy to check my transations.

The Agricola and the Germania are the first works written by Cornelius Tacitus completed in 98 AD. Tacitus, a Roman senator and Governor of Asia 112-113 AD, is one of the best known historians of his era. The Agricola is a biography of the life of Gnaeus Julius Agricola, the Governor of Britain from 78-84 AD. Agricola seems to have had an illustrious career and had been a successful governor, but as Agricola's son-in-law, Tacitus is a biased source. The Germania describes the characteristics of the various German tribes. Tacitus is unlikely to have visited the tribes himself so his information is most likely based on the research of others and hearsay. While his reliability is sometimes questionable, these are some of the earliest descriptions of Britons and Germans that we have and of historical value. You also get some insight into the administration of Roman Britain and the pacification of the Britons. The Agricola and the Germania are both sprinkled with Tacitus's commentary on Rome. Tacitus has a low opinion of the current state of Roman society. He frequently admires the unspoiled qualities of the barbarians as compared to his morally questionable countrymen. Tacitus's style and flair make these works easy to read, even amusing at times.

Dr. Anderson provides a wonderful story told not only sequentially but also addresses the vertical issues faced and overcome by the Jubilee Singers. They were conceived out of financial need but were birthed by the prayer of George Leonard White, the treasurer at Fisk University. White formed and led the singers although he himself was not a musician. He did expect and receive the highest level of quality with it enduring regardless of personnel change within his term.The author also provides excellent expository insight into the hurdles faced by the group, including financial duress and the expected domestic racism. However the Jubilee Singers also encountered the issues of success such as loss of personal privacy and the occasional inflated ego. This is a story worth telling, one in an era so close after the end of slavery in which a group of African-Americans gained worldwide acclaim. What a miracle to be born into slavery then some years later to interact with such notables of the era as Charles Haddon Spurgeon, Queen Victoria, and DL Moody.

Because I feel that studying with it helped me do well on the test, I feel that I have to give this book a good rating. My master's program is Curriculum and Instruction with a concentration in ESL. Some of the content was not addressed directly in program coursework.I am glad to have made the purchase and to have had access to it (I used the Kindle for PC version). I studied for a three-week period between semesters (this, and an older version of an ESL Praxis study guide that I found used on Amazon). The content felt so boring, and I so despise having to take standardized tests, that I couldn't bring myself to spend much time on it immediately before the test. I didn't practice the writing segments and am not sure how I did on those since the test score isn't broken down to give that information, but I think that having a firm grip on content will help with that aspect.It didn't seem like there were many more current study guides available, than this title. It is a decent review, however.

I really liked this study book a whole lot. It went more in depth than some others that I had read for this test. I scored well above what I needed on it because of this book. I highly recommend it to anyone.

Definitely helped me know what to study and how to prepare. Before I went in, I had no idea what to expect. This book was a great prep resource.

I passed this test on the first try and got a rather high score actually. As long as this book is used with intent, you should be fine.

This was an excellent study guide. It was easy to read and the online Praxis test was great as it showed me exactly what my weak areas were. Now I'm just waiting for the test results.

I passed the test, so I guess you could say it works. The condensed/main points section at the beginning of each section is great for really quick studying. The book gives you all the main pieces of information you need to know for the test.

I studied three or four times a week for an hour or two, while my baby was sleeping, and I passed the test. I really liked the simplicity of the study over each math concept, but when I went to take the test the questions were a lot more difficult. This book gives you a good review over concepts, just be ready to use those concepts in (how can I say it?) a multi-layer way. Over all please with my score!!
