Awesome Book! I enjoyed his previous book and couldn't wait for this one to hit the shelves. Meb is one of the few folks that will tell you what he uses as supplements and training aids AND will let you know if the brand is a sponsor of his or not. I truly appreciate the honesty and integrity Meb displays. This book is a fun read. I finished it in a couple of evenings. Now I will go back and really see about applying some of his knowledge and wisdom to my own training plans. Meb is a down to earth person which is great. He is definitely not full of himself and treats others with the utmost respect. His advice is real and valuable in that he is right about his training plan might not work for the next athlete. It does give you an idea as to how he approaches his training and racing. That in itself is extremely valuable to me.If you are looking for a fun book to read about Meb with some very valuable insight and knowledge, then this is perfect for you. If you are looking for a book that gives you specific day to day plans to follow in preparation to an event, then you might want to look elsewhere.I highly recommend this book to everyone.

Good solid advice, but most importantly it's nicely targeted at masters athletes. Too much training advice designed around elite athletes or young indestructible kids (anyone under age 35). This book does a great job of incorporating stretching, cross-training, nutrition and rest, which can be just as important as the actual workouts.

This is a great book for someone getting serious about running. As the title says, it covers running, eating, exercising, stretching, just about everything. On the other hand, it doesn't really give you a training schedule for a race, but he does share some parts of his schedules.I like the sections on exercises because many of them can be done outside a gym. I'm trying to build strength doing planks.Reading this book makes it clear that Meb and other elite class runners are working at being elite runners. It is a full time job, and they spend more than eight hours a day running and training. So buy the book. I got a copy and had Meb sign it at an event before a race. Then I bought the Kindle version so I could take it to the gym (it's convenient for me during the day) and use his pictures to guide my workout.

A little Meb history, but mostly an advice column for runners bucketed by topic. I really mostly enjoyed this book and would recommend it to runners of all stripes. While Meb is a legend and has done what almost none of us reading this book could or would, his advice scales. What I found especially useful is his tips about using the pace you feel you're running on a recovery run to judge whether you're recovered. I also liked how in the the Kindle edition the graphics actually worked vs. being laid out weirdly. I look forward to trying some of his stretches and wholly agree re: prehab. He plugs his sponsors, mostly within reason. I think he could talk a little less about Elliptigo though. My one quibble. Most of the book he said "now this is what I do, but it might not work for you" but he's weirdly anti water bottle:"Now, let’s be honest—if you carry a bottle for a 5-K or a 10-K, then we have some problems. But for a marathon or a half-marathon that’s going to take more than 2 hours, if carrying your own drink will make you feel comfortable, I’m okay with that."Who makes Meb the police of what drinking frequency works for other runners? Does it really affect him if John Q. Runner needs a drink on a mile fun run?

Who doesn't love Meb? After the 2017 NYC Marathon I was so happy to see Shalane take the wind, but sad knowing Meb was running his last competitive marathon. Between Obama leaving and Meb taking a final bow this book had to be a part of my collection. I like that Meb really give advice to mortals. He acknowledges his true talent, but really passionately believes that all runners can reach their highest potential when putting in the work. I'm even more inspired to run my next marathon trying out some of Meb's techniques.

This reads more like a narrative than a solid exercise book. It's about Meb and what worked for Meb; it's not necessarily designed to be a general guide on how to improve one's running. Sometimes the tone gets a bit annoying and the text can feel like it's rambling. But on the flip side the book is full of interesting anecdotes, tips, and gems. I enjoyed the glimpse into how Meb approaches training and racing. And the section on Meb's preferred running-specific drills and stretches is quite well done, with very clear photos illustrating how to do each exercise. All in all, a good quick read and something I would recommend to anyone interested in longer distance running.

I love, love, love this book! I started reading it but kept bouncing around because of all the interesting points. It's turned out to be more of a reference book for me in terms of stretching and strengthening. The advice is great, and I found it very insightful. I do agree that this is not just a book for elite runners, but for anyone (marathoners or non-marathoners). I highly recommend it.On a side note, Meb was the commencement speaker at my school where I teach and I got a chance to meet him afterwards. He's such a great guy! He's very down-to-earth and friendly. He signed it (and added nice note too). Meb is the man!

I've read a lot of running books over the years - Meb fo Mortals was unique in the way it provides great practical tips, yet isn't prescriptive.Runners of all abilities should be able to get something from this book - even if you are a back of the pack newby running your first 5km, the tips on stretching and strength training have relevance to everyday health as much as elite marathoners. On top of that the book is an easy read, great narrative with a logical flow. Highly recommended to any one wanting to become a better runner.
