This book is in no way shape or form about clearing your mind. This book is in no way designed to get your brain to work faster on a deeper level. It's just a combination of some Mnemonic techniques and mental math to save you some time on studying and the easier math you would use a calculator for.The first 75 pages are him droning on about making your brain more efficient, but not covering any techniques. I could give a break down of the book and how many extra pages there were, but that would give the book more time than it deserves. Lets just say that maybe 50 pages of this 350 page book provided any content(and not even that good of content).The author also hates referencing things. The only people who get to avoid referencing are memory masters like Dominic O'Brien who are 8 time world memory champions. I mention O'brien because his Brilliant Memory book is a good piece to contrast with. His book was all technique and almost no filler. This book on the other hand is almost all filler and the Mnemonics are only average.If you want to clear your mind and work in your minds optimal zone, then pick up a book like Deep Work by Cal Newport which will talk about the difference between a walk in the park and a walk in a busy city, the effects of media and multitasking, and the value of letting yourself be bored.This is all around a wasted read.

Marie Kondo is to de-cluttering physical spaces as Mike Byster is to de-cluttering your mind. Just like with Kondo's book, you should only read The Power of Forgetting when you are ready to do some work. Having a more productive mind isn't going to happen without challenging yourself and being willing to do some major spring cleaning.Mike Byster gives many examples of ways to exercise your brain. Personally, I've started alphabetizing letters in common words and dividing by 91 just for fun. I create stories in my mind when I go to the grocery store to remember my list. It's exciting to think what improvements I'll make over time by trying his different exercises. If only I could take a photo of the sock drawer in my head!

I was so excited to read this book! I am 47 and I am always lookingfor great ways to exercise my brain and this is the "Buns of Steel" forthe brain! This book is a smooth read which challenges one to thinkoutside of the box and dares you to use your brain in fun ways! Icompletely enjoyed Mr. Byster's passion for the topic and I think hehas wise and useful tips that when used more than once can keep themind more productive and helps to flex the most important muscle ofall! People don't just exercise once and expect to be fit and it islogical that the brain needs to be worked out to keep it fit and productive!.

This book is fun, it makes me feel smarter, and I'm sharing a lot of it with my kids. The practical examples are very useful and the writing style is very approachable. I love the insights Byster provides that I can use daily to work on the skills he teaches. I am curious if the author does any speaking for large groups as I'd like to invite him to speak to my company.

Mike Byster, The Human Calculator, first appeared in my universe when he was in sixth grade and I was teaching eighth-grade advanced algebra. At his brilliant older sister's urging, he engaged me in a mental-arithmetic contest and beat me, while displaying a precocious humility. Nikesh Shukla is a British writer and diversity activist who conceived and edited The Good Immigrant, the acclaimed collection of essays about race and immigration by 21 writers of color. He is the editor of Rife Magazine, an online magazine for young people, and the author of the novels Coconut Unlimited which was shortlisted for the Costa First Novel Award, and Meatspace. He has been shortlisted for the Liberty Human Rights Arts Award and named as one of Foreign Policy's 100 Global Thinkers 2016. His third novel The One Who Wrote Destiny and his first YA novel will be published in 2018. Chimene Suleyman is a writer from London who is now based in New York. Of not having from infancy that complete knowing, I am an American. I was born here. My parents and grandparents were born here, and everything in my experience says, “I belong here.”Some of of the writers were born in the US, but their parents immigrated here for various reasons, and perhaps their parents never learned to speak English. Or the language of origin is onlyspoken at home, even if the writer grew up speaking English at school. Culturally their home life is of their original country. They grew up feeling ‘othered’ by their accent, the smell of the food they brought from home, by the clothing their parents insisted they wear, by their parents’ worldview.Basically, they never felt like they belonged here. And often, when visiting their parent country of origin, they felt they as outsiders there. Somewhere in between, not belonging anywhere.They have never had that experience of Home, which has led to great inner turmoil and longing.The writing of each of the 26 was superb.Clear and full of their longing for Home. Once you get used to the author's narrative style it is a very enjoyable read. The style is very much like listening to a story orally, rather than the way most authors narrate their stories, you will have to read it yourself to see what I mean. I think this collection of books would be best enjoyed as an audio book for this reason.I still find the brother the most interesting, although I do think he has adopted American idioms and ways of thinking terribly fast with only one year in America.The ending went really fast and all ends were tied up super fast. I was at 97% on my kindle and couldn't imagine how everything could wrap up so quickly, that is the only thing I did not like, just the feeling that it all happened too quickly at the end.I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

This is the 3rd book in the series, The Sisters of Rosefield Series. Even if you haven't read the first 2 books in the series, don't worry you won't be lost while reading this book. I loved everything about this book!! Even though this is the final book in the series, I wish this was a series that could keep going, it's that good!! Reading the conflicting emotions 2 of the sisters are feeling regarding their futures, Emma wrote it so well, you fell like you're part of their lives right there in their homes with them. This was my first time reading a book by Emma Easter and jumping into book 3 of The Sisters of Rosefield Series wasn't easy. It is best if you read the books in order which I didn't do.The story involves the lives of the Gardner sisters and a half brother they didn't know they had. This book picks up their stories from the previous books and there is a lot of jumping back and forth from one siblings' story to what's happening in another siblings life.What I did appreciate was their faith and trust in God in facing their situations.This is a clean book and again best if you read the books in order.I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

I am a new reader to Emma Easter and the Christian genre - This is book #3 of the series and while it is not necessary to read the first two books of this series, I would highly recommend it so that you have the back history of the sisters and their brother. This is a fast paced Christian book that shares many stories within one story. The Author does a good job of making sure that the stories flow well with each other and you aren't feeling lost. The characters are easy to relate to and inspirational with their faith and determination. While Love Means Everything is the third book in the series, it can be read first. I am certain your enjoyment would be enhanced if all three were read in order, but I enjoyed this fast paced, Christian book. The book has many interesting characters. Their stories are interwoven. These characters all had great faith - and placed their trust in doing God's will rather than their own will. There was a fun sequence when good trumped evil. if you are looking for an excellent inspirational book, try this one. This is a clean Christian story about the complexities of love and life and how God cares about every part of your life and will lead you if you trust him to. It's funny that the ones that had the most materially had a harder time trusting God completely but the ones that had the least trusted him with everything even their very lives. I liked the small stories and how they were woven together to make this story work. At first I was a little lot since I felt it jumped from one story to another and then back again . It made my head spin a bit and had to reread parts because I got confused. I really enjoyed this fast paced book. I loved the characters and found myself routing for them to be successful in their endeavors. I loved the Christian values that were woven throughout the book.
