Rubbish. The book has a good collection of different genre's from rock and roll to folk, to pops. But the book fell apart within a week. The plastic binding just disgorges pages daily until it all fell apart. Each separate page now has one ragged edge with the remnants of the binding system which uses square hole to fit the plastic tabs on the binding. Crappy system makes opening, closing and moving the whole unwieldy book impossible. I've considered punching holes to fit a three ring binder but the pages would have to go in backwards as the edge you would normally punch is a jagged mess with the remnants of the square holes. Cutting them off to get a clean edge leaves no room for the new holes as they'd cover some of the music.

This book is too large for the flimsy thin comb binding. I have smaller books with thicker plastic comb bindings (e.g. my 30 year old Real Book is still in one piece). This book arrived with the bottom comb teeth not through the holes. I attempted to fix it, but even after that, the bottom half of the last 30 or so pages are already coming off of the comb after the first day of use. It will be a challenge to keep this book in one piece.Lots of songs, printed very small.

This is really a 4 1/2 star book. The very qualities that it HAS also hampers it. It is HUGE and has literally something for everyone in it. The BIGGEST problem with the book is that the print is very small. By having small print, it allows sometimes two songs to a page. Good thing it comes wirey binder, otherwise it is SO big it would be totally unwieldy. All the songs are NOT in the key of C, if that's what you're looking for. When I got the book in the mail, I immediately found at least 30 favorites of mine that I marked that I could easily play. There is great music in this book. I researched the "Reviews" before I bought this and I have to say, that they were Spot-On with their reviews. Make sure you wear magnifiers when you sit down with this book. I would definitely recommend this book. While I'm at it with this review,......the very BEST book I've bought was the 1960's Fake Book. Phenomenal music (all in C)

I bought this book about ten years ago. It has a great collection of songs from a variety of genres (though don't look for classical music here). I used the book so much that it eventually fell apart. Part of the reason is that the binder was slightly too small to contain all of the pages as the volume expanded from opening, laying flat, and then closing.I really do like having a binder because it can lay flat, unlike bound books. So I bought the newest edition with the intent of "retiring" my original book. However, there are several changes -- some new songs, and some songs that are no longer in the book. Some arrangements (such as they are -- it is a fake book) are different, but not necessarily better.I would highly recommend this book to anybody who plays for fun and wants to play across the spectrum: new, old, slow, fast, easy, hard, etc. If you are into jazz chords (e.g. lots of major sevenths) you may have to figure out where to use them. Some of the songs have them baked in. But others tend more toward traditional chord charts.

The book is massive and has a very good selection of songs from a wide variety of artists. Sure, I'd like all my favorites to be included but that isn't possible for any publisher. As for the print, given the size of the page and the density of the sheet music, I don't see how it could be made any easier to read. Good enough for my needs. I do recommend a sturdy music stand to prop this book on while using if one doesn't have a traditional piano or wants to use a guitar etc. I would have preferred the Kindle version but there the size is an issue as magnification is not allowed. So, I'll scan my favorites into a pdf and display them on my monitor instead.

I am an older guitar player, have been playing for about a year and a half now. As an older player I found many of the songs enjoyable to play (and there are a lot of songs in this book). A couple of things to consider if interested in this book: there are no tabs throughout and any unfamiliar chords have to be looked up from the back of the book or elsewhere. The songs are not too complicated for anyone that has been playing for a while and each does have the words to go along with them. All said and done I would purchase this book again.

There are certainly a ton of songs here, and I appreciate that. But as soon as I removed the HUGE book from the shipping box, about a quarter of the pages escaped from the comb binding the pages together. Just too much weight for a flimsy plastic comb. I suppose I will have to take the whole thing apart, divide it into three or four parts, and order some smaller combs to rebind it myself. Not happy.

I read the earlier reviews about the size of the music print but this isn't as small as you would expect. Works for me. I can read the music rather easily but it certainly isn't as large as the fake books that are available with less songs. Love the amount and type of songs available. So many some are sure to please as others may be too old.

I almost stopped halfway through. A good friend encouraged me to continue. "It gets better," she said. I continued because of that and because I have loved and respected Patti Smith's music and poetry since I was in my mid-teens. I was a charter member of her fan club in the mid-'70s. I also feel it's my responsibility as a committed reader to finish a book that's been written with grit and authenticity.It got a little better, but I continued to feel like I didn't really know where she was or who she was talking about a lot of the time. There were a number of paragraphs I had to read over and over again to track where we were: the equivalent of talking to someone who's speaking almost inaudibly or with a thick, unusual accent. I felt like I was squinting my eyes and craning my neck to track her conversation.There's no doubt of her being a brilliant wordsmith and poet, and that she has shared her grief in a poetic and deep way.At the end of the story, I was disappointed that after all the poignant mentions about her husband Fred and after I, the reader, proving my interest and investment by hanging in there till the end of the book she doesn't share with us what happened. I felt let down.To assuage my disappointment, I googled Fred Smith and learned this (which helped me to have completion):"In 1976, firebrand rock poetess Patti Smith visited Detroit while touring behind her album Radio Ethiopia, and was introduced to Fred Sonic Smith at a party held at Lafayette Coney Island, one of the city's most celebrated hot dog stands. While Fred Smith was married at the time, he and Patti immediately hit it off, and before long a low-key romance blossomed between them. By 1978, Fredwas once again single, and he and Patti were free to go public with their relationship. In 1980, Fredand Patti were married; Sonic's Rendezvous Band had recently broken up, and after a calamitous European tour following the release of her album, Wave, Patti opted to retire from touring. The couple moved to St. Clair Shores, a suburb of Detroit, and quietly settled down to raise a son and a daughter away from the media spotlight and the rigors of a musician's life. Both Patti and Fred continued to write music together, and in 1986, Patti came out of retirement to record the album Dream of Life. Fred wrote much of the material in collaboration with Patti, played guitar on the album, and helped to produce the sessions. In a 1996 interview, Patti said, "Dream of Life was really more Fred's record -- it was all Fred's music, Fred's philosophy." Though it featured the anthemic "People Have the Power," a song that would become a highlight of Patti's live shows, Dream of Life failed to find an audience, despite strong reviews. I'll be pondering this one for a while.All of that said, Patti Smith is a deep, unique artist in a soul-less age. For that, I am deeply grateful.

This is the only Patti Smith book I have read so I cannot compare it to her past memoir JUST KIDS or anything else she has written. It appears many reviewers have been put off by the book due to its "arcane" references. I found it a compelling read and as one commentator suggested already, anyone with a bit of intellectual curiosity can explore the books and artists she references quite easily. I make it a habit of writing down every reference I don't know or fully understand for every book I read. I believe I had five note cards filled at end of M Train with things to look up and learn. This is not a straightforward story type of memoir and those seeking that and who have little intellectual curiosity will be disappointed. If you are the type of person who enjoys listening to a very intelligent, well-read and thoughtful person describe moments of their life, past and present, with plenty of references sprinkled in about books and places and observations and experiences then you will enjoy this book. I liked the fact that Smith shows no self-pity and seems to be aging gracefully and clearly has a curious mind.

I've been a fan of Patti's music,and poetry since her first album "Horses". I loved her book "Just Kids",and I own most of her poetry books. Seeing Patti perform is exciting,and she exudes a strange, exotic, sensuality on stage. So...I was so looking forward to" M Train." I felt that it took us on an uncomfortable excursion around the world visiting dead "Icons" she admired,including photos. Coffee,and detective shows were also a strong theme,and if you didn't watch these shows you wouldn't understand some of her passages. I wanted to know more about her life now,aside from visiting coffee shops.This book was not terrible, however, not her best. Sorry Patti.This books title should have been titled "Eulogies".

What sort of book is this? Nothing like "Just Kids." It’s not exactly a memoir and certainly not an autobiography. I’d say more than anything it’s a journal—some entries deal with recent events, some with events in the author’s earlier life, and some describe her fantasies and dream life. So, what’s it about? Certain themes occur and recur here—coffee, fascination with television police procedurals, foreign travel, and grief. The entries describe the life of an aging widow who lives alone with cats. The distinguishing traits of this person’s journal and why it’s eminently worth reading are her renown as a godmother of punk rock and, even more importantly, her tremendous facility with the written word. Furthermore, what kept me immersed in this journal were her descriptions of the books she’s read and re-read, many of which I feel we’ve shared.

I enjoyed Patti Smith's memoir "Just Kids" so much that when I saw she had another book published this year I just had to read it, and I'm glad I did. This book is very different from her earlier memoir, not nearly as linear, for one thing, and not covering a particular period of time. M Train is written in a loose, free-flowing style like a meandering voice of poetry. She dips in and out of time, talking about her parents, her husband Fred whose death she still mourns, her children, and her various travels. Her photographs illustrate the book and they are mostly photos of objects that she loves because each one reminds her of someone--her father's chair, Frieda Kahlo's bed, the boardwalk at Rockaway. One of the narrative threads in her book is her purchase of a small cottage in Rockaway, which she bought just before hurricane Sandy struck and destroyed the boardwalk as well as many of the houses. The book is plotless, but gives a good sense of Smith and of the things that are important to her. People who share her interest in the natural world around us and the artists and writers she knew, will enjoy spending this time with Smith.

All keeping with the Amish theme that she is noted for.In this particular book, Priscilla Smucker finds herself receiving unwanted attention in the community over an upcoming charity event at the local Mennonite church. When jealousy turns to bullying, Priscilla and her friends find themselves in some tough situations. In today's world, there is a large focusing on bullying. Most of that focus is on bullying via the internet. Sarah brings to light that bullying can happen anywhere. Even among the Amish.I've read Sarah's other books and consider her among the best of the Amish fiction authors. I am always anxious at the news of an upcoming new novel she has written. When Sarah approached me to provide book discussion questions for this book, I was honored. After reading the book, the material and content of it made compiling the questions an easy task for me. Her knowledge of the amish way, her compassion in caring for those who are bullied, and her flare for romance is all wrapped up in this small book.

I think not only this book but the whole series is a must read for all kids. Bullying is a heart wrenching problems that effects way to many of our children and we need to find a way to put a stop to it! Sarah Price has done a fantastic job with this series and I'm sure you will agree.Book 1 The Tomatoe PatchBook2 The Quilting BeeBook 3 The Hope ChestBook 4 The clothes LineAll of which follow Priscilla Smucker/Esh and the bullying she encounters through out her late teen years. As you read you will see bullying effects all and it at times is hard to pin point how to handle it but with faith one can come out on top.I highly recommend this series

This is a book with a moral story. I loved it. I enjoy books about the Amish in general, but there are a few authors that I feel are much better writers than others. I am sure this is true in any genre. Anyway, Ms. Price did an excellent job with this book. I am about to read the second book in the series. And, I already have the third book in the series so I won't have to wait to read it. I recommend these books for anyone who loves a clean book. No sex or cursing, etc.

Mrs. Price: I own at least 6 of your books and I've enjoyed each of them and I'm glad there are more to look forward to. I'm still finding it hard to put my finger on exactly why your books are so good. The closest is this: Little misunderstanding grow so easily. You paint how this happens and assumptions lead us astray. Each novel has a slightly different take on how miscommunications gets resolved but all illustrate that living one's faith day to day (and not just one day a week) is solid rock on which to find solutions. Although I'm a happily married guy, I recently discovered that Amazon's computer thinks I'm female from my book choices. Prayers for Sale and Safe Haven (well before the movie) and your Plain Fame books. The common threat is ...... ?As to the Tomato Patch: SPOILERS BELOW.You paint a nice picture of Priscilla suffering from a bully and then how she grows and copes. She picks good choices informed by her beliefs.I have not yet read the Quilting Bee so ... maybe more will be told. I am left frustrated by: How did Polly cope? What ever lead Suzie's family to ignore their daughter? I'm just guessing that most non-Amish parents have an idea if their child is a bully. So too Amish? In the context of belief <> family, how did her family avoid her signs? How did Suzie's mind get so far out of the Amish mainstream? Didn't she bully while still in school? Bullying incidents do not end happily always. Did the community (the bishop, her parents, Polly's family) do right by leaving Priscilla sink or swim until the end? Your novella isn't convincing. We had a teenage girl commit suicide due to cyber bullying one town over last year. Waiting for community consensus about an individual bully ...what might Jesus suggest?I do hope you will address Esh's distinction of two types of pride, self or about non-self. I am not very centered in my thoughts about that.JonPS Now that I've figured out (I think) how to leave recommendationsI'll go back to your other novels as time allows. Just don't tell Amazon its gender mistake.

After reading many of Beverly Lewis Amish stories, I started reading the Plain Triology by Sarah Price. While waiting for the third book in the series I decided to read more from this author. I started the Amish of Ephrata series with book number one The Tomato Patch.After reading so many books about the Amish you would think the material would begin to repeat itself. I do not find that the case Ms.Price has a unique way of incorporating the interesting stories with a faith based lesson on daily struggles in everyone's lives. A good book to read at bedtime. Now, don't get me wrong, I love Beatrix Potter and her stories. My mom gave them to me when I was little. So, when I had a little one of my own how could I resist? I got this book for his first birthday, but when I read it out loud I was disappointed. While the pictures turned out vibrant, it's a very cut-down story of the beloved Peter Rabbit with a chewed-up moralless rendition of the original story. C'mon guys, I totally understand you have to squeeze a story onto less pages for board books. But this was a sloppy way to go about it.

Is this a joke? Amazon you've failed me here! No way would this book ever be found in an actual store because no one would buy it if given the chance to see it in real life first. Tiny, so tiny in fact it's hard to turn the pages. Terrible quality overall, super thin pages, and horribly pixelated, faint images. The worst quality book I've ever bought hands down.

DO NOT ORDER THE PAPERBACK. I wish I had read the reviews, but I guess I was in a hurry. I thought this would be a decent rendition of the beloved children's book "The Tale of Peter Rabbit." This is a joke. It looks like someone photo-copied it. The images aren't even centered on the page. It's only a little bigger than the size of my iPhone. So sad. So sad that amazon would even allow this to be sold.

These books are just as I remember from my childhood. I hope my daughter gets as much enjoyment out of them as i did.Peter Rabbit is a story of a rambunctious little rabbit who does not listen to his mother. He goes on an adventure and nearly gets caught by the farmer. As he is running from the farmer he gets tangled up and loses his shoes and his jacked. He makes it back home and immediately get put to bed without supper.The illustrations are well done in this book. I have thoroughly enjoyed reading it to my daughter.

The copy I got was terrible. It looks photocopied, or as if it was printed on a personal inkjet printer. It is vine with glue and hard to open.I just read that amazon reviews are not based on the actual product version, but on the story, so as another customer said, be careful when selecting which version to buy.

What can I say? I'm a rabbit lover and have loved the tale of Peter Rabbit from childhood. This coloring book not only contains many nice printed pictures to color but also contains the story as well. The book's covers contain color images of several of the pictures that are available for coloring in case you may need some guidance. The images are what you would expect from the Beatrix Potter books so if your looking for a coloring book that is what you may remember as a child, this is it.I believe the pictures are pretty simple so that even some older children could color them. The backgrounds can be a little challenging since they seem to be a little less detail and so is open more to your imagination on how to fill in. Overall, I love this coloring book and am having fun with it.

This is the second of the same baby book that I've bought. I thought about getting a different one for my second child for interests sake but I ultimately knew I would be disappointed with anything else (and so, probably, would they). This is a GREAT baby book! My search was long and hard. There are a lot of not great ones out there, and a lot of the more interesting ones aren't sweet and baby-themed enough. This is a throw-back, with Peter Rabbit, but it is also modern enough to look back on and be reminded of the baby's first year, and what those good-ole-days were really like. NOSTALGIA! I love that it's printed in Italy, instead of China; that it's made responsibly (you can read about that); that's it's such great quality - it will NEVER fall apart; that it's not silly and is pretty standard with firsts and a family tree and places for pictures of things that matter; that it has sweet, but not distracting, pictures (you can write right on top of them if you need the space); and that it expects reasonable amounts of time and effort from you but feels full and sufficient. It has a pocket in the back too, to store some things. Mostly it just doesn't annoy the ever-loving crap out of me, like most of the other's certainly would have.

A remake of the vintage Beatrix Potter Peter Rabbit tales. This version of less than thirty pages does not match the original collection of Peter Rabbit tales, but it is a nice introduction to the lessons of Peter for younger children. It lacks the lyrical language and appears curt in a few sections. On the other hand, the essential story is present. Peter, unlike his siblings, Flopsy, Mopsy, and Cotton-tail, cannot avoid containing his curiosity and disobeying his mother. He soon finds himself being chased by Farmer McGregor facing a fate similar to his father. Peter is a clever fellow, but he has several narrow escapes. In the end, his siblings do seem to be properly rewarded, while he remains the black sheep of the family.The watercolor illustrations are not quite as muted and are more modern. They do an adequate job of portraying the action for young readers. I would recommend the book especially for preschoolers

I have always preferred Rick Steves' books over Lonely Planet, as its chapters are easier to follow for a first time visitor - this book is no exception. The book offers helpful maps that detail all the major roadways and sights, you will not need a secondary map (Knopfs) or guidebook. The book could use a better mass transit map, but Istanbul's tram system is pretty straight forward, and as a tourist, you are probably only taking one tram line anyway between Taksim and the markets through Sultanahmet. Istanbul does not have very wide roads in the old city, taking the taxi would not be fun with the potential traffic issues, avoid if you can (unless you are not staying near the old city).The locations in the book are accurate for all sights and restaurants listed, however, the prices were not, as everything seemed to be 10% more expensive than listed. (I have the current version that came out in March 2014 and I visited in April 2014)Pro-tip - One may now purchase the 3 day Istanbul Museum pass (Muze) for 80 Liras (~37 USD) that allows entrance to Topkapi Palace, Aya Sofia, and various museums. It functions like the Paris Museum pass or the Roma Pass - allows visitors to skip the enormous ticket buying lines as the actual entrance lines are often short. I purchased this pass at Aya Sofia, which saved me from monster lines at Topkapi Palace.

We just returned from our trip to Istanbul and found Rick Steves' Istanbul to be ab excellent resource both in preparing us for the trip and in helping us while we were there. We used advice from the book to prioritize what we wanted to see while we were there and also to group excursions so that we could see things that are close together on the same day. Rick Steves' has excellent walking tours that are very detailed (ie look just to the left of the big wooden door at shoulder height and you will see __________) and have tons of historical information. If you don't mind walking through the museums with a guidebook, you can definitely use this in place of the guides that try to sell you expensive tours outside of the big museums (like the Aya Sofia). It is also helpful to have Rick Steves' detailed tours for the buildings and areas, such as the mosques, that don't offer guides. These places will sometimes have a plaque that will tell you a bit about the history of what you are seeing, but often the English translation isn't great and you can only fit so much on a plaque. Using Rick Steves' in these locations really enriched our understanding of the city and helped us learn and appreciate the history even more. The only complaint that I had is that although the book claims it is updated yearly, there were a few times that small details such as prices were slightly inaccurate. While it would have been nice to know that some of the museums cost 25 TL instead of 20, for us that didn't make a huge difference. If you are planning your trip on a really tight budget, you may want to check these things online first. Other than that, this book was extremely helpful!

We learned so many important things from this book it's hard to know where to start. Not that we were ever at risk of miss seeing the Hagia Sophia or the Blue Mosque without this book, but we probably would have not bought a Museum Pass; or taken the Public Ferry Bosporus to the Blace Sea and a taxi back to save time; or had in one place what's open on what day of the week.Also, I got it on Kindle, which made it easier to reference anything using the links and the search function.To travel smart, save money and time in Istanbul, this is a must-have.

Useful book if you plan to visit Istanbul on your own. Contains hotel info and tips on various practical matters. If you are taking a tour and hotels will be booked for you, you may wish to get a smaller book with more pictures like the DK Eyewitness guides. I did not like the illustrations - most are very small and black and white, so they are not very useful.

Just spent six days in Istanbul touring. This is our first purchase of a Rick Steves Guidebook. It's the best on-the-ground guidebook we've used. Using this guide, Rick Steve's Turkish oriented podcasts, and his video, we were well covered. Bought the hard copy and Kindle version for use on an iPad. Both worked equally well.We've travelled extensively in Europe and Asia and purchased many guidebooks. I gave this a try because it complemented Rick's video series, was authored by excellent local Turkish tour guides, and is small enough to carry in a purse or small bag.I found myself pulling out the guide often for planning and while actually at the sites we visited. Rick has edited this version to provide essential information in a very easy to follow format. It has maps in the front for transportation and orientation purposes. For example, I used this guide to help me find and visit the Topkopi Palace. Inside this magnificent Palace I walked following the path it recommended. I also used the available audio guide you rent at the front entrance. These complemented each other perfectly though they didn't follow precisely the same routes. Ricks descriptions were in-depth and his routes followed a very logical path. I found this to be true throughout my trip. This is one area where it beat other guides hands-down. It also provides essential information about prices, opening times, and other valuable information. It really was like having a personal guide along to ensure we didn't miss anything.Some have criticized this guide for being out-of-date and containing erroneous information regarding subway routes. Frankly, those criticisms are overblown. Istanbul is undergoing extensive rebuilding and renovation. Exchange rates change and prices change. No guidebook can keep up with these and if you depend only on them for pricing and exchange rates you ought to be doing better trip planning.We've carried virtually every type of guidebook over the years from Frommers to Lonely Planet to Eyewitness Guides. They all have their advantages and disadvantages. We found this guide to be the best on-the-ground, accessable, walking around and getting around guide we've used. I also found the iPad version useful when used in conjunction with a good GPS navigation app. If they'd tie the eBook's maps and location descriptions into the iPad GPS technology so you know precisely where you are located, they'd crush the competition.Highly recommended.
