A joy to have found. I am humbled (and Ihave been acknowledged as an excellent teacher for over 35 year!)s. If the title of "best teacher" were a race, I wouldadmit to coming in a distant second.

This was a really fantastic historical look at the origins of the church. Professor Ehrman does not take a position as to whether any particular view of Christian faith is correct or incorrect. Rather, he merely gives an historical survey of the origins of the beliefs based on his encyclopedic knowledge of the scriptures and extra-canonical texts. If you are looking for a polemic in support of a particular view of the church and Jesus, you will be disappointed. However, for those who are interested in what we can know objectively about the early church, you will be greatly rewarded--whether or not you are a person of faith. And, if you find yourself disagreeing with Dr. Ehrman's propositions, you will at least have a good working knowledge of what you can explore further. Nice job!

Were the clergy and the liturgy questionable and questioned?Ѫ How and why would Christianity end becoming the Roman Empire official religion?I MISSED SOME ANSWERSЖ I would have liked to know in which areas, if any, Jesus differed from other apocalyptic prophets of the 1st Century, and if his discourse had anything new to it or not.Ж I would have loved some reflection on the fact that there were many apocalyptic prophets in the 1st Century, and many of them were disposed of by the authorities, but Jesus' message ended being the only one perpetuated. Why did that happen? Just on the grounds of his resurrection? Why would Jesus' followers spread the message and the disciples of other prophetic teachers did not?Ж One of the episodes in the New Testament is the one that mentions St Thomas after Jesus' resurrection, in which Thomas thought he was seeing a ghost, but Jesus made him touch his wounds to prove to him he was well alive. So I wonder, where there is any historical possibility of he surviving crucifixion. In other words, I would have loved Ehrman discussing the Swoon Hypothesis and the historicity of The Lost Years of Jesus: Documentary Evidence of Jesus' 17-Year Journey to the East.Ж Valentinianism is barely mentioned in this course, probably included among the general epigraph Gnostics, but this was one of the major Christian heterodox movements of early Christianity until the 4th century, so I thought a bit of more space and time should have devoted to them.Ж When discussing the birth of Christian liturgy, Ehrman discusses Baptism and Eucharist, but nothing is mentioned about Marriage and Burial ceremonies among Christians. Didn't they exist? When did they develop?Ж Although Ehrman mentions some women in the course, he does not say a word about the role of women in early Christianity. Something that I found utterly surprising, giving the fact that St Paul wasn't a women lover, to put it boldly, but Jesus had associated with women easily.Ж Among the reasons why Christianity spread so quickly in the Roman Empire and throughout the world, nothing is said about the way Christianity appropriated Pagan festivities and celebrities, and precise dates and deities, and gave them a Christian meaning. Did that happen after Constantine? I would have loved hearing something about that, to add to the reasons of the spread of Christianity, but nothing is said. Perhaps is a myth? Did that happened after Constantine?Ж Re the Trinity, I thought that there is, in a way, an approach to Trinity that somewhat resonates with some of the Gnostic myths of creation, so I would have loved him digging a bit on that.Ж Finally, Ehrman presents the information as a bold statements that seem to indicate that there is not much doubt among historians about some of the things he says. I would have loved seeing him discussing this points of view and sayings of his as his and also presented those who don't agree with him, so as to give the listener a more balanced discourse.MINDThis course is very not really controversial. Ehrman is a historian and needs to contextualise the figure of Jesus and early Christianity. So he needs to speak as much of Jesus and Christians as of Jews, Judaism, Pagans and Paganism. As the period covered in the course is quite large, understandably some things are treated superficially. I would recommend listening to Ehrman's The Historical Jesus, and to Brakke's Gnosticism: From Nag Hammadi to the Gospel of Judas. Yet, if you only hear to this course, you will get value for money and food for thought and for the soul.

I found this very unsatisfying. It seems to me that Dr. Ehrman skips over a lot of important considerations and ignores obvious things that would counter is views.I believe in seeking the truth about everything, including religious topics. But Dr. Ehrman seems to only present material that supports his atheistic position.The speaker is apparently presenting the "historical Jesus," meaning he's telling only what secular scholars can attest to from evidence and their reasoning, without taking the step of believing Jesus is a divine person, the son of God and savior of humankind.Also, I always think historians should add the following disclaimer before anything they say, especially for events two thousand years ago: "Based on the records and evidence that have survived, that we've been able to discover so far..."The speaker does have some, to my thinking, strange interpretations. For example, why can't the Son of Man refer to Jesus himself? As for example, Mark 9:31, "The Son of man is delivered into the hands of men, and they shall kill him; and after that he is killed, he shall rise the third day." Another example: why can't Isaiah have been referring directly to Jesus in places like Isaiah 53?As a Mormon Christian, I find the speaker's interpretations to be limited. Mormons have a different interpretation: the Jews at the time of Jesus were in an apostate condition, so obviously they didn't understand who Jesus was. And after Jesus' death, and the death of the apostles, the full gospel and church of Jesus was lost, including the necessary priesthood authority. People rejected the simple gospel of Jesus and so it faded out.On this topic I recommend the following instead:The Case for Jesus: The Biblical and Historical Evidence for Christ.

The author mentioned the name 'Mariam Massoro with Singing Brook Farm' but the author did not provide contact info for Mariam.On page 56, the author wrongly implies that a completely vegetarian diet is more healthy than a diet that includes meat. PhD nutritionist Mary Enig has shown that claim to be false in her book Eat Fat, Lose Fat: The Healthy Alternative to Trans Fats.On pg 68, the author refers to Elsie Horton with Elsie's Goat Farm in TX and then says, "Contact information is in the section 'Resources and Networking' but there was no contact information there.Page 131, however, was helpful in explaining that diatomaceous earth can kill fleas, grubs, ticks, ringworm, and lice for our farm animals.[...]

This book makes me want to stop everything I'm doing and start farming full-time. It has inspired me to have a small farm-stand outside my apartment this summer. (I have a small city garden) Her writing was full of hope and wonder for the natural world. It wasn't a simple 1, 2, 3 steps for farming, although she did cover various sustainable farming techniques. (not in full - but it gives the reader the freedom to pursue what works for them. The book offers a guide to using a backyard to small acreage to do farming. I purchased the book to add to my collections of books on farming. It is a great book for those interested in gardening and farming is small locations.

Barbara Berst Adams has written an excellent, well written work on getting the most from gardening efforts on small acreage. Easy to read and packed with practical ideas.

I purchased this book because I entertained hopes of starting and maintaining a micro eco-farm in addition to teaching others to do the same in order to supplement food for their tables and income for their wallets. I was already aware that farming is a challenging business to be in given the physical work required to get started and the capital investments in plants/seeds, propagation materials, and tools, not to mention the cost of one's own labor as measured in units of time, so I wasn't approaching this project with romanticized notions of farming. For example, a single ill-timed freeze can take out your tree fruit crop for the year (and mind you, I'm citing an actual freeze that wiped out orchard crops in Littlerock, CA in 2011). With global warming in play and extreme weather events on the rise, it's a real risk that can ruin you financially if you don't have an ample cushion. The anecdotes are encouraging and inspiring but be forewarned. I followed up with online searches for the eco-farms mentioned by name in the book and at the time that I conducted the search in 2010, roughly 30 to 40 percent of the eco-farms were either no longer in business or had changed their business models to stay afloat financially.

This is a concise review of where large and small farming is going. It needs to be read by all. Just reading this book has elevated my urban garden to unbelievable heights.

As someone seriously considering raising flowers and vegetables for profit from my back yard, I found this book inspiring and informative. The author relates her own experiences and those of others in the business in a way that demonstrates the benefits (and potential profits) that come from nurturing and caring for the earth. I especially liked the section on soil enhancement and the benefit of microbes-very interesting!

I was extremely disappointed with this book. It is very light on practical information and insight and kept repeating the same things in what seemed to be a cynical effort to get the book to at least 100 pages long. In reading the book, it felt like the key information could have been condensed into an extended magazine article. I typically like to highlight the books that I read so that I can go back and reference the key points. My highlighting pen was not troubled by this book.

This book is AMAZING!! I'm a certified life coach looking for advice and guidance for starting my own business. I've been struggling to find resources that address certain issues and give advice about the life coach business. This book has been a gold mine of information. It is well-written, straight forward, and an incredible source for life coaches. Thank you John Daniels for writing this book! I hope you write more!

I have been following so many success and life coaches like Robert Kiyosaki, John Maxwell, Zig Ziglar, Brian Tracy etc and wondered how to become like them. Now, after reading this book I realized that life as a success coach is indeed very rewarding. You can help a lot of people succeed and reach their goals in life. This has inspired me a lot. Also, I learned so many great ideas and tips on how to start one's career as a life coach and the best thing that I've learned is that "life coaching should be results-based." The success of a life coach lies on his sincerity to help others succeed. As mentioned by Zig Ziglar, "you can have everything you want if you help enough people get everything they want." I love this book and will definitely recommend this to everybody.

I really had a great time reading this book. It's a perfect book to read before the year ends. I have always wanted to become a life coach so I can help a lot of people and inspire them. I knew people who ended their lives because they were not able to get some help. I want to make a difference in this world and this book has really helped me on how to get started. This is a very mediocre book. Literally everything in it can be found by reading blog articles and advice posts about becoming a life coach. There is ZERO usable material for actual life coaches inside. Don't waste your time and money. The only people who would gain anything from reading this are those who have absolutely no idea about what becoming a coach entails.

I bought this book to find out more about the growing concept of Life coaching. During the past years it has become a huge industry and I am really intrigued on how a capable life coach is trained. I enjoyed reading about the many types of coaches and how they are qualified. The "construction" of a personal coaching business is presented step by step in explicit details to follow. I don't believe there is any more information required in order to start.

The author makes one feel that life coaching is almost unattainable, or at least it came across that way for me. I mean sure it sounds a bit like a textbook and there are good pieces of information here. I just found it hard to "listen" to his points due to the textbook feel. I learn best with a conversational tone and being given something to inspire me to step out and use it. I am also an experiential learner so for me this book didn't resonate well. It may for another person though it is still a good investment.

Very misleading title and description. This is basically a collection of some information about what it's like to be a life coach. Does NOT contain any methods to apply in coaching people. Hardly a "complete" guide.

I absolutely love love this book and recommend it to anyone i know with a new puppy. i buy it for friends all the time and have read it twice and bought their other books. it helped me so much with my adopted hard to manage dog who has been a delightful friend/ companion for 12 years.

This is about the 4th time I am buying this book. Every time I met someone that has just gotten a puppy I ended up giving away my copy. After reading this book I ended up with the dog that everyone in the neighborhood wanted.

Good read but felt somewhat outdated.

Wonderful book on the best training methods. There are other books and even a video series. The monks believe that dogs were meant as companions for us. Their training methods are based on the pack nature of dogs. I have used this method on my 3 German Shepards and am very pleased with the results. People are amazed at how well behaved my dogs are. Thank you Monks of New Skeet.

What are the things you need to look for when selecting a pup. How do you know what kinds of traits the pup will have when it becomes an adult dog? How to train for obedience?Luckily the Monks of New Skete realized this and have come out with a newer book "The Art of raising a Puppy" which talks about all the stuff that's not present in their first book.My suggestion, save yourself of buying this book and get their newer one instead which has material of the first book + more.

This is an extremely well written book that explains the dynamics of acupuncture and energy medicine in a way that is easily grasped. The material is original, thought-provoking and clearly extensively researched. The book is appropriate for acupuncturists, acupuncture students, energy/body workers, psychotherapists, massage therapists or anyone in the healing arts who wishes to gain a better understanding of mind/body medicine from both an Eastern and a Western perspective.

Haven't read it yet, just skimmed through. but I know it's a good one.

Dr. Mark Seem is a well known and respected Acupuncturist and founder of Tri-State Institute of Traditional Chinese Acupuncture in Stamford, Connecticut. The book presents theoretical foundations of the Acupuncture technique as practiced and taught by the author.I read Bodymind Energetics about a year ago as part of my medical acupuncture study. It is a good introductory text for someone interested in Acupuncture and Energetic Medicine.The book is accessible and well written; yes, as mentioned by the previous reviewer, it is repetitious at times, but I don't hold it against the author because the ideas advanced in the book are new for the majority of readers, and these concepts do require multiple different angles of presentations to make them clear.One of the reviewers complained about the angry tone of the book. There is some truth in this observation. One thing we need to remember, though, is that the author of the book has Ph.D. in French Philosophy. I am not making a disparaging remark. Au contraire. What I am saying is that the author is a very intelligent and sensitive person (otherwise he wouldn't achieve what he has achieved and wouldn't be doing what he is doing!), but, judging by his (very elegant otherwise) writing style, the author's intellectual roots are undoubtedly Gallic with all the applicable stereotypes (see Monty Python and the Holy Grail or read Mark Twain's ramblings on the subject).Just remember that there is plenty to learn from this book, and you will do much better paying attention to the content of the book, rather than tone with which it is written.The one weakness of the book, in my opinion, is its cover: the picture of black human figure surrounded by energy field lines is somewhat misleading. I suspect that this picture scared off a lot of intended readers. Don't pay any attention to the cover: the book has nothing to do with Blavatskaya/Astral Body/Distance Healing/etc.
